Not Sprunke

What is Not Sprunke?
Open Not Sprunke and the first thing you notice is what is missing. No Oren. No Raddy. No Wenda. Not one shape from the familiar lineup survived. Not Sprunke keeps the drag-and-drop music-mixing skeleton that Sprunki inherited from Incredibox, then strips out every character and replaces them with six originals in saturated neon colours, standing in front of a cracked red and grey backdrop that looks like shattered concrete.
That is where the name comes from. Not Sprunke is a fan-made mod built as a deliberate negation of the thing it descends from — same seven-slot stage, same layered loops, completely different inhabitants. It is a mod for players who already know the base game well enough that unfamiliarity is the point.
Like most community mods in this scene, Not Sprunke runs entirely in a browser. There is nothing to install, no account, no APK required for the basic experience. You load the page, the roster appears along the bottom edge, and you start stacking sounds.

How to Play Not Sprunke?
The mechanics of Not Sprunke will feel immediately readable if you have touched any Incredibox-style mod before:
- Preview the roster first. Click each of the characters in the bottom tray to hear their loop in isolation. In Not Sprunke this step matters more than usual, because you cannot guess a character's role from its design — the colour and silhouette conventions of the base game do not apply here.
- Drag a character onto an empty slot. The loop starts on the next bar and stays locked to the project tempo, so nothing you drop can land off-beat.
- Build from the bottom up. Put a percussive layer down first, then add texture, then bring in whatever functions as lead or vocal in your reading of the Not Sprunke roster.
- Fill up to seven slots. Seven simultaneous loops is the ceiling. That constraint is what makes Not Sprunke a composition puzzle instead of a soundboard.
- Mute and unmute live. Pulling a layer out for a few bars and dropping it back in is the cheapest way to give a Not Sprunke mix an actual arrangement instead of a flat wall of loops.
- Drag a character off the stage to remove that loop entirely and free the slot.
There is no fail state and no score in Not Sprunke. You are done when the loop sounds finished to you.
Game Features of Not Sprunke
- A fully replaced cast. Six visible characters, none of them descended from the original roster. This is the single feature that defines Not Sprunke.
- A damaged stage. The cracked grey-on-deep-red background reads as world damage — something broke here before you loaded the page — and it makes the neon character colours hit noticeably harder by contrast.
- Pink pixel squares in the top corners. A tiny non-standard interface detail that no other mod in this family uses. Half retro affectation, half signal that Not Sprunke is operating outside the usual visual grammar.
- Tempo-locked layering. Every loop in Not Sprunke syncs automatically, so untrained players get listenable results from random combinations.
- Browser-first delivery. Not Sprunke loads directly on fan mod portals with no download step, which keeps the barrier to entry near zero.
- Combination discovery. As with its siblings, certain groupings in Not Sprunke produce more than the sum of their loops, which is what keeps sessions going past the first five minutes.
Why Play Not Sprunke?
Because it deletes your muscle memory on purpose. Most mods in this space reskin a cast you already understand — you still know which face gives you the kick and which one gives you the hook, so you rebuild the same mix you always build with a new coat of paint. Not Sprunke removes that shortcut. Every session starts with genuine uncertainty about what each character does.
That makes Not Sprunke a better fit for two kinds of players than the average mod. Veterans get a real reset, a chance to feel like a beginner again inside a system they had solved. Newcomers get an unusually clean entry point, because nothing in Not Sprunke assumes you have met the original characters. There is no lore homework and no inside reference to miss.
It is also a short experience by design. A satisfying Not Sprunke session is fifteen minutes, not two hours, and the mod does not pretend otherwise.
Character Design of Not Sprunke
Six characters, each drawn with its own visual logic rather than a shared house style:
- The purple horned figure on the far left is built from angles instead of curves — star-shaped, horned, with black markings over a yellow lower body that could be patterning or could be damage. It is designed to look like a threat before it makes a sound.
- The orange headphones figure is the only character in Not Sprunke you could mistake for a nod to the original cast, and only because of the colour and the headphones. Large black spiral eyes make the expression unreadable — not hostile, just wrong in a way that suggests something happened to how this character sees.
- The grey screaming figure is where your eye lands first. Cat-ear shapes, wide frightened eyes, a huge open mouth full of small teeth, and colouring drained of all warmth. It is the most human reaction on a stage full of characters that read as post-human.
- The green flower figure takes the longest to parse: broad petals radiating out from the head, one enormous black eye with a small green iris, red body underneath. Petals are supposed to be friendly. A single unblinking eye inside them is not. Quietly the best design decision in Not Sprunke.
- The red beaked figure has an elongated beak-like mouth and hollow dark eye sockets. Next to a screaming character and a flower-eyed one, its total stillness is what makes it the most predatory thing on the stage.
- The yellow grinning figure closes the lineup with an enormous manic grin packed with teeth. The brightness of the yellow makes the grin worse, not friendlier. A tiny blue character sits near it looking scared, and that size difference is the only place Not Sprunke plays with scale — it tells you everything about the power dynamic without a line of dialogue.
Tips and Strategies for Not Sprunke
- Audition the whole roster before you place anything. Two minutes of clicking saves you from a first Not Sprunke mix that is three melodies and no floor.
- Start with three loops, not seven. Sparse mixes expose how each Not Sprunke layer actually behaves. Add the rest once you know.
- Pair loud designs with quiet ones. The characters that look aggressive tend to occupy dense frequency space. Two of them together in Not Sprunke will fight; one plus a thinner layer will not.
- Leave a slot empty on purpose. A six-layer Not Sprunke mix with headroom usually sounds better than a full seven-layer one that has none.
- Use mute as an arrangement tool. Drop everything except your percussive layer for two bars, then bring the stack back. Instant structure.
- Save the combination that works. Write down the slot order when a Not Sprunke mix lands. It is easy to lose a good arrangement to one careless drag.
Community Engagement of Not Sprunke
Not Sprunke lives where the rest of this scene lives: mod portals, itch.io pages, YouTube mix uploads, TikTok clips, and Discord servers where players trade combinations. Mods like Not Sprunke spread through short recordings far more than through written guides — someone posts a forty-second loop, a comment asks which characters are in it, and the thread turns into a recipe exchange.
The community response to Not Sprunke has focused on the art direction more than the audio, which makes sense given how far the roster departs from convention. Character redesigns, fan drawings of the grey screaming figure, and speculation about what the cracked background is supposed to be are the recurring threads. If you build something good in Not Sprunke, record it — that is the currency here.
